Group Project: Developing Learning Goals and Learning Objectives
This week, you and your group members will work together to develop the learning goals and learning objectives for your curriculum design proposal. Based on the information provided in your scenario, consider what learning goals and learning objectives your curriculum design company would recommend for the program you are designing. Reflect on the following:
Learning goals:
  • What should be the purpose and intention of the curriculum you design?
  • What would learners, who are participating in your client’s instructional program, need to be able to do at the conclusion of the instruction?
  • Why are the learning goals you are developing the “best” choice? If enacted, how would they optimize the client’s instructional program?
Learning objectives:
  • What terminal behaviors or actions will demonstrate learning of the curriculum? What would learners, who are participating in your client’s instructional program, need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of and/or perform at the conclusion of instruction?
  • What conditions must be present during this demonstration of learning?
  • What standards or criteria will be used to assess the performance of the terminal behaviors or actions?

By Monday, the Week 2 Facilitator should create a page in the group wiki designated for “Learning Goals and Objectives.”

By Wednesday, post to your group wiki a list of at least one learning goal and at least three learning objectives that you believe would be effective for your company’s curriculum design proposal. Include a brief rationale explaining why you think these goals and objectives would be good choices.
Return to your group wiki and review the learning goals and objectives posted by your group members. How do your ideas compare with those of your colleagues? Do some ideas overlap? Do the ideas of your colleagues cause you to have a different perspective?

By Thursday, each group member should post his or her suggestion for the group’s final learning goals and learning objectives. These suggestions should reflect a combination of what you consider to be the most effective ideas from all group members.
It is the responsibility of the Week 2 Facilitator to review each group member’s suggestion and create a final set of learning goals and learning objectives that reflects the majority opinion. In total, your group should have 3–5 learning goals and 7–10 learning objectives in your final submission.

By Friday, the Week 2 Facilitator should post the final learning goals and learning objectives to the group wiki. Group members should visit the wiki, review the list, and use the wiki or other communication means to resolve any disagreements.

By Sunday, the Week 2 Facilitator should post the finalized, group-approved learning goals and learning objectives to the wiki, along with a brief rationale explaining why these goals are effective. Keep in mind your group should have 3–5 learning goals and 7–10 learning objectives in total. In addition, the Facilitator should post the URL of this wiki content to the Week 2 area of the Group Project discussion board. Your Instructor will visit your group’s wiki to ensure that all group members participated in this assignment, and to approve you group’s learning goals.

Please submit/post your learning goal(s) and learning objectives below.
For making comments and suggestions about everyones learning goals and objective, please communicate in the NEW discussion board. Thank You.

Trevor's Learning Goal and Learning Objectives

Learning Goals

The museum volunteers need to undergo a more formalized training program in order to raise the quality and efficiency of their time volunteering for the museum. This requires that they learn the necessary skills that will give them proficiency in tour narration, Excel software, and calling and emailing patrons in order to raise funds.

Learning Objectives

When given access to the Excel database they should be able to locate any given patron and edit, copy, and/or verify their information without confusion.

When narrating a tour they should be able to provide up to date information on all exhibits (or the ones which they are required to talk about) while hitting all the main points in a smooth, confident way.

When staffing the museum information center, volunteers should be able to give the following information:
-business hours of the museum
-address of the museum
-phone number of the museum
-where any room or attraction open to the public is located within the museum
-when upcoming events will be held (up to 2 months into the future)
-main tourist attractions within 2 miles of the museum
-how to become a patron

When asked to e-mail or call a museum patron they should be able to do so in a manner that exhibits the qualities of excellent customer service.

I believe the above learning goal and learning objectives provide a clear framework for our curriculum proposal. Each learning objective has a clearly stated goal and they are all encapsulated by the over-arching learning goal. I think it is important to keep the objectives clear and result oriented because the museum is basically looking to get better results from their volunteer's performance.

Suzanne's Learning Objectives

Goals

Volunteers must have the ability to give tours to guests. They must have enough knowledge to talk about the art and artists and well as answer questions.

Objectives

Volunteers must be able to provide the following information to guests:

  • History

  • Biographies of the artists.

  • Time Period and what was happening in the world at the time the artist created the paintings (example: Otto Dix art was greatly influenced by his experiences in WW1 and the culture of Germany during WWII and the holocaust)

  • Mediums used

Learning Goals

The volunteers for the museum will possess accurate knowledge in the four areas: leading tours of exhibits, information station, computer literate in Excel, and event coordinator. Volunteers must demonstrate, communicate, and perform the various tasks after training is completed.

Learning Objectives

1. Leading a tour exhibition of the museum, volunteers should recall and recite information on 19th and 20th century American painting. The volunteer should perform with smooth and precise psychomotor skill along with cognitive strategies. Evaluating terminal behavior can be assessed through observing the tour guide in performance declaring the knowledge learned.

2. Information center, must be knowledge to deliver and direct guest on every information that relates to the museum listed below:
FAQ on the museum (contact info, direction, etc…)
Each floor or section of the museum
Handicapped access, restroom, gift shops, and exits
Contacting Event coordinator for special events
Evaluating terminal behavior on the volunteers for the information center need to demonstrate declarative knowledge and intellectual skills. Displaying a positive attitude and feedback contribute on the influence of learning and becoming a terminal behavior.

3.Volunteer should be computer literate and show proficiency level in using Excel database to search any retrieve patron information efficiently and quickly to update their information and maintaining the database organization.
Evaluating terminal behavior in this learning objective must exemplify the learning outcome in procedures and intellectual skills.

4. Volunteers should display a positive communication when calling patrons or typing formal emails to patrons in a clear, organized, and positive tone.

The rational in the goal and the objectives listed exemplifies various learning outcome in declarative knowledge, psychomotor skill, intellectual skills, and cognitive strategies help in constructing and designing an effective learning curriculum.

Learning Goals- (Lita)
The museum volunteers need to undergo a more formalized training program in order to raise the quality and efficiency of their time volunteering for the museum. They will posess the necessary skills to lead guided tours of the museum, acquire the necessary knowledge to offer feedback to patrons, demonstrate excellent communication skills and show literacy in Excel software. All volunteers will be trained and must demonstrate knowledge of all training upon completion.

Learning Objectives

Volunteers working at the museum leading tours, should be able to remember all information related to 19th and 20th Century American paintings. The volunteer should have sharp professional skills, enjoy working with the public, organizing programs, raising money and working with computers.

1) Volunteers should have strong oral, interpersonal skills, public speaking skills and face to face interaction. Must be able to conduct tours and demonstrate knowledge relating to the structure of the museum and its guided tours. Volunteers need to be able to communicate with visitors to the museum effectively. Some volunteers may not be suitable for guided tours, and some may not have the ability of computer skills.
    • Greeting visitors

    • Conduct Guided Tours
    • Knowledgeable of history of paintings, structure of museum, (i.e., where restrooms are, key personnel)
    • Ability to follow oral and written communication

2) Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer skills, including Excel software and ability to maintain database. Volunteer needs to able to retrieve current and former donor information. This function is needed to maintain donor information and those volunteers with computer skills need to be identified.

    • Demonstrate computer literacy
    • Ability to maintain an Excel worksheet
    • Ability to follow oral and written communications

3) Responsible for making sales calls to individuals, businesses, and organizations to recruit for fundraising funds on behalf of the museum.

    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
    • Demonstrate prior fundraising skills

The learning goals and objectives establish a learning outcome for all volunteers. Each objective is clearly defined and multiple learning outcomes. Since the museum is concern with a formalized training program in order to raise the quality and efficiency of their time volunteering for the museum, it a good idea to identify which volunteer(s) possess specific skills and let the training begin.

Learning Goal (Ann)
Given established policies and procedures to follow, museum employees will be able to perform all job tasks identified by the job task analysis.
Learning Objectives (Ann)
Upon completion of our proposed, training program for all museum employees:
  • Given details and information for each museum exhibit and standard operating tour procedures to follow, museum employees can conduct visitor tours of the exhibits in one hour intervals.
  • Given museum information & exhibit fact sheets and answers to commonly asked questions, museum employees can use the documented information to answer visitor’s questions.
  • Given an Excel database to house museum patron information, completion of a Fundamentals of Excel training session, and a defined museum patron registration process, employee can transfer new museum patron information into the database on a daily basis.
  • Given a list of past museum patron information contained in an Excel database, along with fundraising guidelines and tip sheets, employee can contact a minimum of 50 patrons each month to generate fundraising dollars for the museum.
I believe that this learning goal and these learning objectives are the best choice to be used in our proposal to the museum directors. They are specific, measurable and observable, which will enable us to win the museum contract and ultimately, design a training program that will meet the requested expectations of the museum directors.
